My Makeup Storage

I am dying to show you my new storage space for my makeup. First up, pictures were all taken on my phone so pardon the quality. They aren't as crisp and clear as I hoped.

I have been wanting to improve my makeup space for ages now. So while exploring Ikea, I finally decided to get this.

My DH took the whole Saturday afternoon to assemble this.

I spent the evening arranging my makeup stuff. Here goes.

My top tray filled with my essentials and miscellaneous stuff.

My second tray is for my base makeup.

My lipsticks and false lashes.

All my blushes together.

I like keeping them in their boxes especially my Chanel and Burberry. Without the boxes, it is very hard to identify the colours. Not a good thing if you are rushing in the morning. So I cut the side of the box so it is easy to take them out.

My eye shadow palettes.

Finally, my potted shadows and other stuff I don't know where to put.

Thanks for looking!

  1. Given all the products you show on the blog I thought you had about three of those completely filled lol I can cope with the excessive powder products and maybe the lipsticks as well but I have to say I find the quantity of liquid foundations and primers you have quite disturbing. That's too much product for one single complexion. Not too mention that type of product usually doesn't have a long expiration date, so how do you do when they expire? Do you keep using them until they are over or do you throw them away? I always wonder how people with too much makeup products deal with expiration dates.

    1. Diane, I have to say that I do use my foundations past their expiry date. I take a sniff and check consistency to make sure they are still ok. :) what can I say, I'm a compulsive hoarder. I throw makeup that has gone bad.

    2. I'm impressed with the quality of Jacq's collection. It clearly reflects her pursuit of pursued quality over quantity. Things like concealer (and by extension, foundation), often involve trial and error no matter how much research you do. I avidly research 95% of my purchases, and still I find things that don't work out.
Variables like climate, skin type, lifestyle, and budget affect how a product performs. Someone whose skin changes seasonally may need more foundations than someone with less variable skin. Also, I believe the return policy in Singapore stores is nonexistent. In short, I don't think Jacq has too many foundations/primers for a single person. It's not our place to judge. It's up to Jacq what's right for herself.

Diane, you do make a good point about MU expiration dates. With my minimal MU-wearing habits, I've always shied away from purchasing cream products for the very reason they have a shorter shelf life than powders. The product would probably expire before I could finish it. Christine's (@Temptalia) recent blog question (Do you keep your makeup in the fridge?), prompted me to put all my unopened samples, skin care backups (to get free shipping), and 3 makeup backups (1 discontinued, 1 LE & purchased from a blog sale, and 1 because it was on sale and I hit pan) in the fridge.

Diane, how do you deal with MU expiration dates? (Curious.) :)

    3. ps I mentioned concealer in my comment because I don't wear foundation. I've purchased 3 concealers though, and I didn't like any enough to keep. Thankfully I was able to pass them along to people who wanted them.

  2. Excellent idea with the Chanel blushes! I wish I've kept my boxes ... but then I only have 5 and so far putting my favourites right at the front and right at the back (sandwich!) works well.

    1. Thanks Sunny, I got the idea from someone else. I always make a mess of my stuff and it gets frustrating when I need to waste time looking for a particular product. These few days, it's been really easy to locate what I want, I'm contented.

    1. Miss Delirium, thanks for leaving me a comment. I hope you find your storage solution, Ikea is such a wonderful place to explore. I initially had problems cutting my boxes but it was either that or throw them away. You can also do it with your lipstick boxes if you want.

  8. That's a great idea to cut out one side of a box! I stand my palettes and blushes on their sides and stick a label on them for easy identification. But your method is easier and would work on round shaped items. Thanks!

  10. I like the IKEA storage you chose! And, of course, I am in LOVE with your makeup collection. I think we have similar taste in colors, so literally ALL the blushes in your blush drawer need to be mine!!! :P

And to chime in about the IKEA storage -- Jacq, I've never seen this storage unit before. Thanks for introducing it to us. What's it called?

    2. Boo Boo, it is called the MALM Chest of drawers. I have included the link. If you ladies ever come down to Singapore, you are welcome to my home and play with my "toys". ;)

    1. Mag, I am promising myself not to get another storage space. This will be it. My stash must not grow so big that it becomes unmanageable. :)

  13. You must have had so much fun playing with your makeup! You have some incredible items in your collection and it looks fantastic in that organizer. I like how you used your boxes to help you store and identify products. The colour and fonts make them instantly recognizable by brand.

  14. This is amazing collection and I like new storage. We have the same taste for cosmetics and your swatches are very useful to me because in my country there is no Burberry comsetics. So I usually buy it on my business travels or on-line.
