Offline for a while

You won't be seeing posts for a while. I'm recovering from pneumonia and to top if off have an ear infection on my left ear. I can't hear from it!

Anyway my lips are cracked and peeling, they look terrible. Way to make me feel even worse. Anyone out there have any ideas what I can put on them? My Rosebud Salve isn't cutting it.

Well adios for the time being until I get my health back. See you soon.

Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss Swatches

I love my Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait De Glosses. They are the best glosses ever made. It is pigmented with a hi-shine. Perfect on its own or paired up with lipstick. You can read detailed reviews and closeups of the glosses I have here (Confidence, Genie and Insolence)

I just wanted to show all of them together!

Orange lips

I was reading Citrine's blogpost about orange lipsticks. I was inspired. I love orange and coral lips. So I took out my most "in your face" orange lip products and played with them.

With bright orange lips, you have to keep everything else fresh and simple. For me, natural blush like Korres Zea Mays blush in Natural, neutral eye shadows like MAC Shroom and black eyeliner with either coats of volumising mascara or Ardell's 108 eye lashes to give my eyes a little more oomph.

I also notice bright orange lips also emphasis yellow teeth which unfortunately I have. (Does anyone have recommendation of good teeth whiteners?)

Left to right: MUFE Aqua Lip in 17C, MAC Amplified lipstick in Morange and Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss in Genie

What I used:
Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip pencil in 17C
MAC Amplified lipstick in Morange
Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss in Genie

I find both the MUFE Aqua lip pencil and the MAC Amplified Cream to be drying if you do not prep your lips with lip balm. If you have cracked or peeling lips, these two products can be quite unforgiving. I only used a little concealer over my lips so I found both products to have dragged on my lips.

Without gloss.
Morange gives me a matt finish. So I topped it off my gloss for a juicier effect.

With lip gloss
So are you game to try bright orange?

Elise False Eyelashes Giveaway

I'm not loving my Elise false lashes. They are too long for my small Asian eyes and look too made up for day.

I'm using the browns and beige in my Christian Dior Five Golds Eye Palette. Yup, I know I should have placed the eye lash a little further to the end of my eye. My bad.

I prefer more natural looking lashes, so my favourites are Ardell's 108, 109 and 110 and Revelon's Beyond Natural Short Natural Lashes.

So I have two sets to give away. The first two comments gets them. Do leave me your email address so I can contact you.

Eye makeup remover face off Clinique versus Maybelline

I love my Clinique Take the day off makeup remover for lids, lashes and lips ( see my review here). Unfortunately, it is really expensive here. SGD$39. It sells for only USD$18. That is about SGD$24 by recent conversion rate. I get mine online when I can but sometimes when I run out, it is not economical to just order this online.

Few months back, desperate for a replacement and tired of paying $39 for a makeup remover, I bought Maybelline's Total Clean Express Makeup Remover. It sells for SGD$9.90 for a 70 ml bottle.

The makeup remover is a dual phase liquid formula. Like Clinique, you need to shake it well to mix the liquid up. The eye area is sensitive, rough tugging and rubbing will eventually loosen the skin area and cause more wrinkles. It is important to soak your cotton pad with enough makeup remover and place it on your eye and hold it there for some time. The makeup remover will "loosen" up your makeup and a few gentle swipes will remove your eye makeup entirely.

So I did a little experiment. I did a quick eye makeup using all the water resistant, tough to remove products I have.

What I used:
Urban Decay Primer Potion, Make up For Ever Aqua Creams in Green and Gold, MAC Blacktrack Fluidline, MAC Penultimate Liner in Rapid Black and my tough to remove Maybelline Volume Turbo Express waterproof mascara.

Cotton pad soaked with Clinique Take the day off makeup remover

After about 45 seconds of placing cotton pad onto my eyelid, this was what was removed.

As you can see, there are some remaining makeup left.

After a few more swipes with the cotton pad, my eye is squeaky clean.

After a few swipes
My conclusion, Maybelline Total Clean works just as well as Clinique but at a fraction of the cost. Makeup remover is something you need to use enough of to help you remove your makeup. If you are constantly worried about how much product you are using, you may not use enough to be able to remove makeup effectively. Remover is also something you will wash off, it doesn't stay on your face, unlike skincare. I feel that it is something I can save on.

Kiehl's Acai Damage Minimizing Cleanser

(Taken from Kiehl's website)

This gently foaming antioxidant-rich cleanser helps to clear skin of impurities and protect against the visible effects of oxidative damage to skin's tone, texture, and elasticity. Ecocert Organic Certified. 100% Natural Origin Ingredients. Paraben, Sulfate and Silicone-Free. Gently cleanses and helps preserve skin's natural moisture barrier. Soothes and relieves skin exposed to oxidative stress. Reveals a healthful, radiant clarity to skin.

I have always been a fan of Kiehl's products especially skincare products. So when I decided to change my cleanser (Kiehl's Yerba Mate Cleanser) I went back to Kiehl's and asked the SA to make a recommendation for me.

I have been have a dry and itchy patch around my nose area since I had a laser treatment done at my regular facial place last year. Although I love the Yerba Mate Cleanser a lot, the use of it has not helped my dry and itchy patch. The SA recommended Acai Damage Minimizing Cleanser to me.

I have used up a bottle and am on my second bottle now. Coupled with other facial products, my dry patch although not solved, is calmer, less red and itchy unless I use something too strong for that area.

It keeps my face clean and supple. I like that is is gentle on my skin, my face doesn't feel tight after a wash. Together with other products I do see a general brighter and clearer looking face. Something I'm very happy about. As I grow older (sadly) I need to find products that will help me fight environmental damage and help keep my sun spots at bay. This product just suits that purpose for me.

It comes in a pump bottle which you have to shake vigorously. The liquid inside foams up and when you press the pump, out comes this white foam which you apply to your wet face. I gently use a circular motion to spread the foam all over my face and spend a few seconds massaging my face. After rinsing my face, my face feels fresh and clean. No oily filmy feeling.

It sells for USD$24.50 for a 150 ml bottle. It lasted me a good 4 to 5 months of regular use day and night. It sells for SGD $51. Although you can't order online at the Kiehl's USA website (boo!!!) you can order it from Nordstroms. Bulk order or get your girlfriends to join in a spree, prices are cheaper even with shipping combined. Unfortunately, I feel that prices in Singapore are highly marked up.

Lancome L’Absolu Crème De Brillance 06 Rose Nu Review

As I mentioned in my previous posts before, I was invited to try out some Lancome products. I had the opportunity to play around with the L’absolu Crème de Brillance glosses. These were the ones I played with.

(Taken from Lancome Singapore website)

Benefits

Drenches lips in rich, creamy color and intense shin
Helps boost hydration from within the skin, so lips stay moist and comfortable for up to 10 hours
Gives lips a fuller, more voluptuous appearance instantly

Technology

Pro-Xylane™ Concentrated: the highest amount of Pro-Xlane™, the molecule that boosts hydration within the skin, to ever have been used in a lip product.

Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin: hydrates lips by pulling water from the environment and by forming an invisible film that prevents water from evaporating. Lips are instantly moisturized

Shine-boosting and Light-diffusing Pearls – increase color intensity and the appearance of volume

The swatches of the two shades I played with were not fantastic because of the lighting. I was intrigued enough to visit the Robinson’s counter to see all the shades and perhaps get one for myself.

The local counters have a total of six shades. 395, 185, 06, 365, 363 and 357. 06 Rose Nu is natural rose shade. The rest were stronger colours in the reds, mauve and berry categories.

The US website has a total of 10 shades with pretty names. (Check out the shades here)

Brown/ Neutrals – Amande Sucree

Pink/ Berries – Champagne, Berry Noir, Exotic Orchid, Cherrywood Luxe and Blush Classique

Red/Corals – Sienna Ultime and Rose Mythique

The shades at our local counters are quite limited; I decided to pick Rose Nu.

It is about the same size as my favourite gloss of the moment, Chanel Extrait De Gloss. Chanel has 0.28 oz of product as compared with 0.21 oz of product for Lancome. I like the transparent casing; at least I know how much gloss I have left. Ultimately, Chanel still wins hands down in the packaging department. Who can resist black lacquer glass?

It comes with an angled paddle-foot applicator. Something I’ve not come across yet. This paddle-foot does a good job of depositing gloss onto your lips. It spreads just enough gloss evenly so no need for a lip liner brush.

Rose Nu is a great everyday work lip-gloss. A natural pearly rose shade very flattering for my NC30-35 skin tone. It is opaque and creamy and works just like a lipstick. No need to layer it over lipstick. It isn’t very sticky but isn’t runny as well. Sort of an in between. It reminds me of a better version of Dior’s Crème de Gloss.

It is moisturising. After a whole day my lips still felt soft, there was no lip peeling. It does stain the lips after hours of wear. The stain doesn’t look clownish. More like a natural rosy stain, quite pretty actually. Instead of layering on more gloss, a lip balm over it also looks quite lovely. You know how some glosses look awful after a few more applications? This didn’t happen. At the end of my workday, I applied another layer successfully. It looked fresh just like how it looked in the morning when I first applied.

The L’absolu Crème de Brillance sells for SGD$40. That puts it in the premium lip-gloss range.

Do you need such an expensive lip-gloss? Everyone needs pampering. If you find that one great lip-gloss in the most flattering shade you should buy it without hesistation.
