Browhaus Brow Resurrection Review

This post was posted originally on 16th December 2011. I just went a few days ago for a touch up and thought I would update everyone on how it went. Scroll down to the bottom for the updates if you have read this post before.

I had a little free time a week ago and I went to Browhaus to thread my eye brows and upper lip. I had quite a good first time experience at Browhaus (you can read about it here) and so I bought a package and have been going there to get my brows done regularly.

I'm very easily swayed into buying packages and things. I have absolutely no control at all. I was yet again sweet talked into doing the Brow Resurrection service. For your information I paid SGD$800 for it. You know the whole spiel about how it is the end of the year and there is a special promotion price yadda yadda well this girl fell for it hook line and sinker and I paid for it and made an appointment to come in on Friday to get it done.

I waited till after my Capella trip because it is quite important that after the brow resurrection treatment my brows do not get wet which means no swimming.

So what is a Brow Resurrection? To put it simply, it is a semi permanent eye brow embroidery that is said to last between 1 to 1.5 years.

Why did I decide to do this? Well, my brows are kinda uneven and sparse.

See what I mean

Until now, I have yet to master how to draw my brows well. I would like groomed eye brows all the time. Besides I wanted to find out what was it like.

Today was The Day. I took some pictures of before just so you, dear readers can see the difference. The things I do for the sake of research! (Just kidding!)

The above are the before shots. I had my brows threaded just a week before so they still look neat and tidy. I'm not sure if you notice, my brows and slightly uneven. One is a tad higher than the other. My brows do not have tails either, I have to draw them in.

The whole thing took me one and a half hour. The first part was to have the therapist  J draw my eye brows to a shape which I was satisfied with. Then a numbing cream was spread all over my brows and we had to wait for about 20 minutes before we began. During the 20 minutes, J mixed the dye which matched my eye brows and I had another lady read out an indemnity form to me. Do I have epilepsy, heart conditions etc. I was a little worried. I clarified that the procedure was not painful and I asked why was it necessary. Well basically I got the standard issue reply about how they needed to protect themselves in case there was a problem. Naturally being the dutiful customer I signed without any questions. If DH was there I probably get a good scolding.

After 20 minutes J wiped off the cream and started work. I am relieved to say I felt no pain, it was more of an uncomfortable scraping sensation towards the end of each brow session. Perhaps by then my brows were a little sore and I felt the scraping a little more than the beginning.

J used a tool which he dipped in the dye and made very fine lines to mimic that of eye brow hairs.  He was constantly checking to see if my brows were symmetrical and whether the dye was too light or too dark. When it was done he applied some lotion and there was a slight stinging. My brows did feel sore but I'm glad that after about an hour they did not feel sore any more.

Am I happy with it? I'm not sure, I'm not totally bursting with delight. I guess it takes getting used to. My brows do look more defined now. I wonder if I look fierce. Do I? I'm not happy that this totally emphasized the fact that one brow starts a little lower than the other. I will probably need a little make up magic to conceal it. I wonder if DH will notice and say anything about it.

I realise I haven't finish spending yet though. I was told I needed some after care products to ensure that my brows will be at their best. Sigh! This cute packaging containing the Build and Fix product cost me another SGD$160.

My after care means no prolonged contact with water for at least 1 week. I have to take extra care when I wash my face. No skincare or make up around the brow region. No swimming, facials, steam baths, saunas or exposing them to the sun for the next two weeks.

I will keep updating on how everything  goes. I am up for a tune up session within 3 months. So until then I will hold off my ratings.

I keep looking at the mirror! Sheesh!

Day 1
My brows don't hurt unless I touch it. Last night I touched my brows while sleeping, I woke up almost immediately because it hurt. I finding it a pain to wash my face without getting my brows wet. After the second time I was like what the heck I'll wash my face like normal. I just added more Fix onto my brows before washing. DH doesn't like it at all. Not that he noticed until I pointed it out to him. Sigh! I'm kinda regretting it now.

Day 4
My brows do not hurt any more but they do itch a little sometimes. I'm still getting use to my brows. I'm getting mixed reviews from friends and family. My mom likes them but another colleague says that they could be longer and lower. Hm...I can't wait for them to fade more and become more natural.

Day 14
I celebrated my two weeks by having a relaxing facial mask! By Day 6, I could see scabbing appearing on my brows. I resisted the temptation of peeling them off and let them fall off by themselves. Everything looks clean by Day 10. I also used less of the products that were given to me, I'm not sure whether it will affect the tint.

Here are my brows not drawn on Day 14.

Day -1
Day 1
Day 14
Day -1
Day 1
Day 14
At this moment, I don't feel that my brows look much better than when I normally draw my brows to justify the amount I paid for it. I'm going to wait till it is time for a tune up and after to see if there is an improvement.

10 March 2012

It has been almost 3 months and I have finally gone for my Brow Resurrection touch up. I would have gone two weeks earlier but a bad cough prevented me from going. Just to recap, I took the picture below just before going for my touch up. I did not fill in by brows, I went au naturel. Please note that I did a brow threading session three weeks ago so my brows still look quite tidy.

When I went in for the touch up, I told J my therapist that the last time round I notice that my brows were slightly uneven. One was slightly higher up than the other. So when J drew my brows he told that my brow were not symmetrical and showed me that my brow hairs grew differently. (Am I making sense?) The drawn brows look quite okay so I gave him the okay to do the actual procedure. This time I was more sensitive to the pain, it hurt more that the last time not sure why. So J gave me more numbing cream and after that it was much more bearable. So this is the end result.

Have I mentioned how pushy the counter staff can be? Anyway they were trying to persuade me to get another BR package early because it is a good price. I can hold it for a few years and use it when it fades. I put my foot down and said no. I will want to see how this BR fares in the coming months. I do another update in about two to three months time for you to see the difference.

  1. Maybe you should apply a concentrated amount of SPF on your brows, just in case :)

  3. I went to get my brows threaded today and almost got talked into the BResurrection...... im such a sucker. luckily i didnt have my creidt card so i couldnt go ahead with it.... (but i almost did) -- i swear they all go to the most ruthless sales academy!! i just fall for it.....

it is Very expensive though........ they quoted me 840 ( as a special promo?!) ...... do u really think it's worth it??

  4. aniB, I think you should shop around and ask around for recc before you decide, don't be like me. I have a sneaky feeling that they will tell everyone that this price is a special promo. It has been two weeks now and my eye brows look more natural. I'll take a picture tomorrow again and do a comparison. I'm so used to them now that I don't know how it was before. :)

  5. Hi Jacqueline

Did you ask your therapist to lighten the color? Your resurrection seems to be a little too light after 14 days!

  6. Hey Novia, thanks for your comment. I did mention I wanted natural brows so he told me he would not darken my brows too much.

  7. I actually love the BR on you, but I kind of agree that with the price, I might have continued attempting it on my own. It looks really great, though!

    1. Hey Alex, i love my brows too thanks! It has been about 3 weeks since my touch up and it had slightly faded but I'm glad it still maintains its shape just less dark. If you do want do your brows I would definitely suggest you ask around for reliable shops. I paid too much.

  8. Thank you for your posts! I'm about to have my BR done soon. Some friends had their done at browhaus and didn't report any downtime (i.e. they went on to teach their fitness classes immediately after the session). I have no idea what to expect, or how much pain there will be, and your post has helped me a lot! Thank you.

  9. Hi Jacqueline,
i have just get my BR done yesterday. the same thing happend to me, uneven brows, and even different shape, brow colour is much darker then yours. i feel regret for the BR done..paying so much with this result, kinda dissapoiting...however, the technique itself was pretty good, the brow stroke is really like a real hair...

    1. You probably feel like how I felt after I had it done, it loos quite different than what you are used to right? You will get used to it. After so many months I do like my brows but still don't think it is worth paying so much for it.

  10. Jacqueline: thank you for your detailed and honest post, i thought of checking out BR during my threading appointment but it got cancelled. Now i can rethink if even to go to Browhaus if they are the hard sell type. Good luck with your brows, they do look nice in your latest pictures which is what's tempting me to step into that place!

    1. Hey Anon, do think about it carefully.

I don't need to go to tidy my brows as often as in the past and until now they still look darker and slightly more refined than my normal messy brows but that's about it.

Your brow technician is very important because it is his/her skills that matters the most. When they draw for you and ask you to check, scrutinize like hell before you agree and make sure your brows are balanced and don't buy the treatment gel.

  11. I went for a normal threading + tweeze and got convinced into getting a package too..at first i said no to the BR package they were pushing and then they started suggesting another package that was worth a lot less...in the end i relented and got the cheaper package but i haven't gone back because the threading totally emphasized the uneven nature of my brows. i totally get what you said (mine were exactly like yours in the photo) just that i felt mine was even more extreme (like one started 0.5cm below the other brow) and people were noticing without me having to point it out! oh the horror.... a mac counter girl even volunteered to help me fill them out/make them more even. needless to say i went home in almost immediately after that and spent a long time trying to tweeze/even it out/undo the damage....in the end i had to let my brows grow out completely (it took 4 months) while tweezing the strays here and there before both sides finally looked more even

now i do my brows on my own (just tweezing) which is not ideal but i really don't trust to go back and use my package....i don't know does it expire or something?? i was seriously super mad at myself because i wasted my money on something i wasn't even satisfied on...

it's great that you lay down the facts/give an unbiased opinion i think what really matters is
    1) the skill of the brow technician (i think mine really was a bit wonky that day)
    2) check, check and check again in PROPER LIGHTING (the place is always so dim) that they are balanced (i was shown one brow at a time if i recall correctly)
    3) they are going to take out a calculator and show you how much you will save if you get a package, seriously think through before wasting some cash like me..

    1. He Anon, all the best for your brows. Thank you for leaving me such a detailed comment, I really appreciate it. Your comment matters to me.

I still go back to do threading for my brows and upper lip but have to contend with their constant pushing of the brow Resurrection package. If it is supposed to last for one to two years why would they want to push for me to get another package when I just had my touch up in March?

By the way i can recommend you going to browhaus great world city to try out the therapist over there,if you are still considering having your brows threaded. The therapist name Melody, she a very skill and experience therapist that worked for 6-7years. I have tried as well as my friend shes really good as compare to the therapist from other outlet.Cheers!

    1. Hey Yvonne, well they are back to normal, just a hint of darker and definition. I still need to draw them. Thanks for the recommendation. I wish it was at the HV branch :) it s nearer to my place GW is kinda out of my way. Sigh, don't you wish every therapist had the same level of skills?

      Delete
    2. Of course I wish. But you know that everyone have different style of doing thing,so same level of skill is surely impossible. And Ya sometimes you have to try the skills of the therapist from other outlets. It's because HV is nearer to your place that's why you go there everytime even if you felt they are not up to your expectation.

I'm thinking of doing my brows but I'm not willing to pay so much as I'm still a student&unemployed. Would you know where else which is as good and is at a lower rate? Quite desperate to get mine done.

    1. I only had my brows threaded by another lady and it hurt so adly. I would literally be in tears after the session. I'm sticking on them at the moment because the threading doesn't hurt so much. I'm not the best person to recc but another commentor mentioned that the Browhaus Great World has a good technician named Melody, perhaps you want to give her a try. But be forewarned, you must resist their pushy counter staff.

  19. Hey Jac,

Thanks so much for the info, I kept regretting that I actually bought another package under browhaus which happened yesterday night. & so I decided to google reviews about it, and happened to chanced upon your blog. Yes they were so pushy, and I went to the one at HV too. Basically all 5 staff were instigating and pestering me to buy for a whole 20 minutes. I really wonder if their conscience is clear.

They actually told me that now is their 10-year anniversary and having a promo of $1200 (original price + 1 FREE touch up + 20% discount)... I was like.. nah... & as usual being nice saying I will consider in future ... then they started "You are interested in the package right/ i'll call my manager now." Which I've got it I think twice before. I wonder if they really did call their manager. And suddenly I get a 30% discount. So after GST I had to pay about $898. But I only made the down payment of $270 JUST to secure the package.

Which they told me if I don't feel like doing it in the future, I can just convert them to credit and continue normal brow threading. What a dilemma. Do you think I should just go along with the package and just f that shit, & try something new? Or should I back out? Or if I can even try to get a refund?

    Any tips on this?

It's the same through out all their companies & outlets both Strip & Browhaus, I actually feel quite depressed every time I go for my appt cus I know somehow they will physco the shit out of me, who isn't very good at rejecting...

    1. I can totally understand what you are going through. After paying for the thing I kept wondering if I have made a big mistake. I am a big pushover, I can't say no if my life depended on it. If I had to do it all over again, I would have resisted harder. I don't see that much of a difference to justify the amount I paid. Going regularly for brow threading would have done the trick just fine.

Cheryl what does your heart tell you to do my dear? If you have misgivings about it, then don't go through with it. Get it converted to regular threading service.

If you are worried about how the sales people will make you feel perhaps you want to bring along a friend or a guy who will help you resist.

  21. Hey Jac,

    Thanks for your reply!

Thought through... And I am interested in trying something new and something ill probably do once in my life. You know the saying "you only live once" ... But... I think it's also true that its not worth the money..

I guess I will be converting it into credit. Thanks a lot for your feedback, it did help me indeed quite a fair bit! ;)

  22. Hey Jac,

    Thanks for your reply!

I've thought true and I do feel that I'm interested in trying something new and something that I will do just once in my life since I've always had the mentality that we only live one life... Yet it's also true that it isn't worth paying so much just for a set of brows that I can easily thread and just take a min or two to draw..

Thanks a lot for your feedback! It did help me quite a fair bit indeed! Looks like ill be converting my credit haha!

  23. Hi Jacqueline,
Like the way your eyebrows look, very good job. I am just wondering how does it look when it starts to fade. Does it still look natural?
I am considering to do the procedure but concerned with what happens once it starts to fade. What if you decide you don't want to continue the treatment? Will it start to fade and also blend throughout that skin area? I am very curious. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi there,
Your eyebrows definitely look great and very natural. I am considering to do this procedure but worried about how it will look once it starts to fade. I don't think I will want to continue to uptake it and wondering if it still looks natural after 1 year.
Does the ink start to spread? Or does it still look natural just not as pronounced? I am very curious.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Luna, thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment. The ink doesn't spread but it fades instead. Right now I can't really tell that I have done the procedure. My brows look just a tad darker than normal. You can't really tell that I have done the procedure. This isn't as long lasting as they claim it would be. It looks really nice for the first few months but I eventually have to still go for my regular brow threading.
